As I was watching F. use his PC, I realized that Microsoft have forgotten something, as they were changing and redesigning their interface, that makes operating Windows yet a little bit more disconcerting for newbies. Oh, it’s just a tiny detail among million of others: when you press and release Alt, focus is switched to the menu bar, so that the first key you press afterwards will either open a menu or return to where you were—in either case, certainly not what the user expects. In the first versions of Windows, the colors of the first menu item were inverted so it was quite apparent that the menus were active; now, with the 3D look, even if you watch closely it’s hard to know, and understand, what you could do that would trigger such a strange reaction.

And that was the pointless, useless post of the day.

While we’re at it, as I was asking F. his opinion about a few Once More With Feeling songs, I received the confirmation I expected that Tara sings flat. Oh, it’s in no way worse than the other actors; it’s just more of a pain to me because I love her voice and it’s such a waste. I don’t care that Xander or Willow sing out of tune, because they weren’t going to become singers anyway. Amber Benson, on the other hand, should really take a few singing lessons: it would be a pity not to fix this little something.
