Hi! My name is Cédric Bozzi, I make websites and iOS apps, and this is my blog about technology (mostly a Twitter archive, really).

@Freerunnering:

I love macOS and iOS. And I used to be excited every year for WWDC to see the new features and APIs.

In recent years though WWDC worries me more than excites.

“How much control will Apple taken away this year? What will no longer be possible? What’s been locked down this year?”

@Aidan_Wolf:

I made a little app that lets you bring your doodles into AR, inspired by that old camcorder feature!

First attempt at removing cars off the roads with neural nets. Will have to dream harder.

Ack

I guess they decided that, since the case couldn’t be as small and convenient as the AirPods’, they might as well make it three times as big as strictly necessary?

@Kantrowitz:

Facebook continues to view life as a perpetually cheery existence filled with highs and devoid of lows.

This is not how it works in the real world.

9 May

I keep wondering how much of my AirPods’ battery wear has been caused by the fast-charge functionality that I’ve only taken advantage of, like, twice in the past year.

@ow:

this demo from Google I/O is literal dark magic holy shit

Did iOS 12.3 remove the ability to swipe left on a lock-screen notification? Haven’t seen anyone mention it (it won’t be missed, then). Makes sense as non-3D Touch devices emulate it with long-press.

I’m glad I no longer have to think about where I’m swiping to access the camera.

Never mind, must have been a bug.

@stuntbox:

Must read: Two U.S. data recovery firms that claimed to offer high-tech solutions to ransomware attacks were actually just paying the ransoms and charging victims extra. [features.propublica.org]

@JamieJBartlett:

I can’t believe what I’m seeing! While running a facial recognition pilot, one man (understandably imho) covered himself up. The police forced him to show his face (& then fined him for disorderly conduct). This is dangerous & terrifying.

@Fabien_UX:

Remember when Google’s “blank page with just one field” UI was cited as an exemple of focusing on users?

Soon it’ll just be google answers and paid results. And the answers will be great, thanks to EVERYBODY who traded their content for traffic. Faustian. [twitter.com]

Just noticed that the Signal app has added a “Note to Self” pseudo-conversation and it’s such a great and simple idea, why doesn’t every chat app have this?

18 May

I imported 3,000 photos from my iPhone and now both Photos and my Mac in general are unusable. This is how people end up on Google Photos 😡

19 May

Wait, since when is Google Lens accessible in the “Google” app on iOS? I was convinced it was only available for Google Photos users.

20 May

I’ve disabled sharpening in four different hidden submenus and the picture still isn’t quite right. TVs are wild.

Videos of people from one photo 🙀

Also works with photos from the past and even paintings.

This is crazy 😲

@m4rkmc:

Samsung researchers have released a model that can generate faces in new poses from just a single image/frame (for each of face, pose). Done by building a well-trained landmark model in advance & one-shotting from that.

This gif is my favourite…

Enjoying the sun on the river bank and fruitlessly googling e-ink laptops, like every spring.

@Thomasbcn:

Google hiding the ad label a little further.

Next step light grey?

@AstroKatie:

SpaceX just launched 60 new satellites, which have been spotted as a chain of bright lights across the sky. As more are launched and orbits change, this could be a very big problem for ground-based astronomy. Musk’s offhand “they can’t be seen at night” is not true or reassuring. [twitter.com]
