I’m not convinced by the general alarmism and the idea in particular that Ive can’t steer Apple design all the way from London. In a nutshell, he’s been officially and definitively promoted to Steve-Jobs-in-chief, and that’s not a job for which he needs to be in the office every day.
What Apple needs is someone who makes all the design choices (because that’s how it’s been set up to work, because that’s how it’s been successful, and because it is a good strategy for a product company). But it doesn’t necessarily need someone roaming the halls at Cupertino, screaming at people and firing them. (I’m pretty sure Ive never tried to carry that particular torch of Steve’s anyway.)
