Hi! My name is Cédric Bozzi, I make websites and iOS apps, and this is my blog about technology (mostly a Twitter archive, really).

1 August 2016

iOS 10b4 adds the rainbow flag emoji but Twitter bios still censor most emoji for some reason.

3 August

I think I might like Instagram Stories. The app centralizes visual communication, and now has a place for ephemeral stuff: it makes sense.

4 August

I hope Instagram’s algorithm is good at realizing I’m not necessarily interested in the same people’s stories as photos.

RT @kylebrussell: Snapchat could make marker-based AR work - Snapchat has the reach and Snapcodes are already a core part of the experience

People love to make fun of QR codes yet somehow the world has completely accepted Snapcodes #lastRT

So funny thinking back to those articles about the value of willfully bad UX design now that Instagram drinks Snapchat’s milkshake.

It surprises even me how much I’m diving into Stories now that they’re available in a user-friendly app.

Je découvre la torture de regarder une vidéo 720p sur une télé 140cm.

6 August

I think I understand the lack of Like button in Stories, but they sorely need a lower-friction feedback avenue than full-on DMs.

A Slack-like emoji reaction button would be nice.

Or maybe Instagram’s inbox (which nobody cares about anyway, right?) just naturally becomes a — mostly ignored — thread of emoji reactions.

Can’t imagine Instagram would want that, though.

Feature request: Whenever you paste text into Terminal, it pops up a confirmation prompt.

What do you do when you’re only a medium-grade narcissist, and you want to know your daily view counts but not rewatch your whole damn Story three times a day?

My Mac regularly decides Chrome is too slow or something and opens links in Safari for ten minutes 😡

9 August

J’ai envie de me donner une vraie chance à Snapchat Stories pour comparer avec Instagram mais je n’ai visiblement pas les numéros de téléphone de 90% de mes contacts (ou ils n’utilisent pas Snapchat).

10 August

Not sure when they pushed the change but Google Chrome’s toolbar buttons are suddenly illegibly thin because I guess that’s the modern look.

13 August

Ugh, the video capture hack used by Instagram Stories and Snapchat makes them really bad ay night photography [at least on iPhone 6]. (Edit: Oops, Snapchat has a night mode. Instagram doesn’t seem to.)

Feedly suddenly decides to halve the information density of its “Magazine” layout because in 2016 everyone loves white space and scrolling 🙄

RT @csoghoian: Facebook’s chief security officer: If your firm can’t afford to hire 50+ security people, use Google Chromebooks. [twitter.com]

17 August

Silly me, I started downloading App Store updates with the MacBook on my bare thighs. (Ouch.)

Does Storify really have no ability to automatically extract an entire tweet thread?

The weather app’s UI in watchOS 3 strives to be the least convenient at every single turn. It’s quite impressive honestly.

Est-ce qu’il y a un clone dumb et pas cher de Sphero ? Le BB-8 a un gros potentiel comme jouet pour chats, mais il est aussi très chiant.

RT @parrots: I just checked this, and it worked. First time. Hold me. #xcode8 [pic.twitter.com]

RT @benthompson: Fascinating: ATMs actually increased the number of bank teller jobs. [twitter.com]

OS X update completely emptied my Login Items 🙄 Now trying to remember the name of my Pinboard client.

Installed iOS 10 on iPad. Lock screen clock is flush left in landscape but remains centered in portrait. Both of these choices sadden me.

Still no UI in iOS 10 for managing Game Center friends? That’s a Facebook level of abandoning developers you got to rely on you.

Of course shaking an iMessage extension triggers Shake to Undo, you idiot.

24 August

I hadn’t used Siri once on my iPhone since installing iOS 10, so I’ll be hard-pressed to notice vocal improvements. But it does sound good.

25 August

RT @stevenf: You should probably install iOS 9.3.5 [pic.twitter.com]

26 August

Click twice to unlock without Touch ID, extra tap to use actionable notifications without 3D Touch… iOS 10 isn’t friendly to older devices.

RT @rjonesy: Apple’s bug bounty starts in Sept, but this guy reported 3 zero day hacks anyway. Hope Apple pays him. [twitter.com]

OMG the autoresizing-mask UI is back in Interface Builder for Auto Layout setups. That is as hilarious as it is welcome.

(Yes, I could have watched the WWDC videos sooner.)

FOUR YEARS it’s taken them to realize that maybe having Auto Layout and autoresizing masks coexisting in a xib could be convenient.

28 August

Pretty sure I’d saved a highlight in that Kindle sample; bought the book and it hasn’t just failed to transfer but disappeared altogether 🙄

29 August

My iPhone shouting white noise at me every time an app tried to make sound, until I rebooted. Beta 8 is a keeper.

RT @pierce: Apple’s invite is unusually obvious this time: its just one circle for every headphone jack, slowly disappearing [pic.twitter.com]

Please call it iPhone 2016 instead of something dumb…

The most pleasant way to have multiple convos in iOS is when each contact is in a different app and goddammit webOS’s cards were the best.

30 August

Both of my Macs forget I have azerty keyboards when they reboot.

31 August

But the article doesn’t mention that, like last time, this probably affected new installs only, not updates, thanks to Gatekeeper.

I guess whenever you download a popular open-source app from the web you should quarantine the binary for a week and set a Google alert.

Can’t change accounts in the Apple Store app on iOS. I scheduled my Genius Bar appointment on my work account so can’t access it 🙄

RT @neilcybart: The new wireless AirPods will then become the new status symbol while the white EarPods will seem dated.
